Souvenir Documents: Stomped Moss, Scraped Feet, Stained Fabric

Souvenir Documents: stomped moss, scraped feet, stained fabric, is a body of work completed over two trips to Norris Point, Newfoundland, in the fall of 2017.

The body of work consists of a dress dyed from plant matter collected on site, photo and video documentation of a performance, and a series of poems. The works come together to explore the disconnect between the human body and the landscape. Emphasizing the distance between the places where we think we are doing good, and do not realize we are wrong. I had thought that forcefully removing plants from the ground and adorning my body with their impressions would bring me closer to the land, but it only ever made me stand out as a tourist. A person entering a place, and feeling entitled to take any object I please, labelling everything “souvenir”.

Souvenir Documents was shown in the rOGUE Gallery at Eastern Edge in St. John's, Newfoundland as a solo exhibition from October 27th-November 24th 2018.
